In response to the situation around COVID 19 and government guidelines, for the time being we have taken the difficult decision to stop meeting with lads inside HMYOI Wetherby and other custodial establishments. Unless there is a pressing need, we are also no longer meeting with participants face-to-face in the community or attending non-essential meetings with other statutory or partner organisations.
Our staff are now working remotely from their homes until further notice but, thankfully, our ability to support and encourage our participants is not based alone on meeting them face-to-face on a regular basis. Rather it is the fact that they know and trust us, and that their mentors are a consistent and positive voice in their lives. So, we are doing everything we can to communicate and demonstrate our continued commitment to them – whether in custody or post-release back in their communities – especially through this challenging time with all its additional complexities.
All of our participants have been informed of our changes in working and, together with them, we are looking at how to best interact and support in the coming weeks and months. As well as using phone, text, email, letters, video calls and social media, we are exploring other new and creative ways to support them.
The best way to get in touch with us during this time is by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, thank you to all our donors and supporters for standing with us as we continue to stand by our young people during this difficult time. If you are in a position to make a donation at this time, you can do so here.
